The American College of Emergency Physicians recognized Bonner General Health’s Emergency Department on their E-Qual Honor roll in 2019. The E-QUAL network seeks to reduce avoidable testing for low-risk patients, in addition “to facilitating quality improvement activities by physicians.”

Aims for this initiative include:

  • Reduce the use of high-cost imaging for low back pain
  • Reduce head CT scan after minor head injury
  • Reduce chest CT for pulmonary embolus
  • Reduce abdominal CT for renal colic
  • Head CT for syncope

E-QUAL network provides information and assists physicians in enhancing quality of care.

When asked what significance this initiative has for ER patients, Vincent Huntsberger, M.D. and Bonner General Health Emergency Department Medical Director said, “Avoiding unnecessary tests like CT scans saves our patients time and money while maintaining the highest quality of care at BGH Emergency Department”.
